William "Bill" Henderson McCoy, of Furman, Alabama, passed away on May 4, 2025, at the age of 70. He was born on March 19, 1955, in War Eagle, West Virginia, to the late Ernest McCoy Sr. and Edina Birchfield McCoy.
Bill is survived by his children, Summer McCoy Leifer (Jeff), Ian McCoy (Meredith), and Lila Pearl McCoy; sisters Jean McCoy Cline (Kenneth) and Carol McCoy Vance (Joe); brother Donald Wayne McCoy (Rose); and sister-in-law's Doris McCoy and Alexis McCoy. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, his beloved nieces and nephews, many extended family members, and close friends including Rob Eubank, Harley Justice, and David Ray. He was preceded in death by his siblings Patsy McCoy McGuire, Jerry McCoy, and Ernie McCoy Jr. He remained a dear friend to his ex-wife, Cindy Waren McCoy.
Bill was raised in West Virginia and was a 1974 graduate of laeger High School. He proudly served in the United States Air Force for four years, including a tour in Spain. Bill worked as a welder with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and later as a Lock & Dam Operator on the Alabama River, where he retired.
He earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Auburn University at Montgomery in 1996, followed by a Master's in Nursing from Troy University in 1997. He worked at St. Margaret's Hospital in Montgomery and taught nursing student clinicals for Troy University.
Bill loved to travel back to West Virginia as often as he could, and he cherished time spent with his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in West Virginia.
