Velma I. Davis, age 93 of Lilburn, GA passed away on Thursday, June 3, 2021. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 13, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. from the chapel of Dunklin Funeral Home. Visitation will be held two hours prior to service time with Reverend Jason Rothe officiating. Graveside services will be held immediately following at Providence Cemetery with Dunklin Funeral Home directing. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Johnnie Davis and her parents, George and Mary Clide Whiddon. She is survived by her children, Allen Davis, Wayne Davis (Bobbi), Brenda Childrey (Gerald) and Rhonda Latimer (Bobby); Grandchildren, Shane Davis (Renee), Meredith MacKenzie (Adam), Brian Childrey, Steven Davis, Crystal Davis, Andrea Latimer, and Alexis Latimer; great-grandchildren, Alexandra Davis, Jessica Davis, William MacKenzie and Gabriel MacKenzie; siblings, Glenn Whiddon (Jeanette), Sybel Bennett; nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives.
She was born in Red Level, Alabama. She attended Dekalb Community college where she earned her GED and an associate degree in Accounting. Velma owned an in-home daycare called Davis' Little Angels. Upon retiring, she worked at Annistown Road Baptist Church as a preschool teacher. She was a long-time member of Mountain Park First Baptist Church in Stone Mountain, Georgia where she was a member of the Joy Spreaders and served as their treasurer and secretary. Velma enjoyed traveling, reading (especially her Bible), gardening and spending time with her family. She loved nature and enjoyed spending time in the Smokie Mountains.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mountain Park First Baptist Church.
