Obituary

Thelma Woodruff Harris, a resident of Greenville, Alabama, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2024, after a brief hospital stay.  She was 95 years old.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2024, beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Dunklin Funeral Home with Ministers Tim Skipper and John Richburg officiating and Dunklin Funeral Home directing.  Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery.  The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. until service time.

Thelma was preceded in death by her parents and husband, James C. Harris.  She is the last of her siblings which included her brothers, Cloyed C. Woodruff, Alton Woodruff, Ellis Earl Woodruff, Frank Woodruff, James Louis Woodruff, Hurtis Woodruff; sisters, Iva Lois Woodruff Harris, Gertrude Woodruff Kellum and Blanche Woodruff Rigdon.

She is survived by her children, Louise Harris Foster (Danny) and Carol Harris Hill (Bobo) both of Greenville.  Her grandchildren, Steiner Hill (Christy), Mandus Hill (April), Joey N. Foster (Cheri), Shayne Armstrong; great grandchildren, Christian Hill, Kennedy M. Foster, Gabe Foster, Noah Foster, Brynn Hill, Harper Hill, Braelan Wright; her "adopted" grandchildren, Jane Richburg Cox and John Richburg; special friends, Jean Faulkner and Wayne Boswell; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

Thelma was born December 24, 1928, in Greenville, Alabama to the late Cleveland W. and Minnie Lee Smith Woodruff.  She was a great cook who was known for her chocolate cake, red velvet cake, pound cakes and her pecan pies that she gave away to her numerous friends.  She loved her community and her special neighbors, especially Joe and Mary Richburg, who she was always willing to lend a helping hand and her "advice".

Asked to serve as pallbearers are grandsons, Steiner Hill, Mandus Hill, Joey N. Foster; great grandsons, Christian Hill, Gabe Foster and John Richburg.  Honorary pallbearer Wayne Boswell.

The family would like to thank her caregivers for all their love and support, and to Dr. Danny Hood and the nurses at Regional Medical Center for their care.  Thank you also to Amedysis Home Health and their team, especially to nurse Christina Grey.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to First Baptist Church, 212 Fort Dale Road, Greenville, Alabama 36037 to the Youth Programs or to your favorite charity.
