Obituary

MCBRIDE, Sara Lee Couey, 96, was the second child of Lennie and Theus Couey. She grew up in the Georgiana area and moved to Greenville after secondary school.

She was born on December 14, 1919 and entered into the presence of the Lord on Friday, April 15, 2016. A Celebration of Life Service is scheduled at Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home on Monday, April 18, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Paul McLendon officiating and Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home of Greenville, AL directing. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service. She was preceded in death by her husband: Stephen Carey McBride and eldest daughter: Patricia Ann McBride Sansone. She is survived by her four children: Rosalind McBride Mitchell, Linda McBride Snow (Cholly), Charles Carey McBride (Sharon) and Martha Lee McBride; 10 grandchildren: Michael Sansone, Leigh Sansone, Peter Maury Mitchell (Pamela), Wendelyn Mitchell Ahrendt (Scott), Shelly Mitchell Sowell (Steven), Meredith McBride Miller (Wesley), Matthew McBride (Monique), Blair McBride (Nicole), Jason Butts (Rebecca) and Whitney Butts Wright (Dale); 14 great-grandchildren; brother: Reverend Charles Jonathan Couey and sister: Virginia Couey Anderson. Pallbearers will be Blair McBride, Jason Butts, Matthew McBride, Maury Mitchell, Scott Ahrendt, and Holt Mitchell.

Mrs. McBride lived most of her life in Greenville, AL, and attended the First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the church choir. She was a member of the Camellia City Garden Club, where she served a term as President of that organization. She later moved to Montgomery.

Mrs. McBride was an avid gardener of flowers and always kept a fresh cut bouquet on the dining room table. Perhaps she is best known for her cooking from her garden vegetables and the beautiful clothes she lovingly sewed for her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a favorite charity in her memory.
