Phyllis Elaine (Norsworthy) Armstrong, 80, of Greenville, AL, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.
Funeral services will be Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 11am with visitation one hour prior at Dunklin Funeral Home with Rev. Herbert Brown officiating and Dunklin Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow in Sunrise Memorial Park.
Phyllis was born on July 27,1943 to Marvin and Vernie (Curington) Norsworthy, the youngest of twelve children. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Billy Charles Armstrong, her parents, and siblings: baby girl, Olean Amerson, Ona Mae Boswell, Earl, Bill, Wilson, Ruth Cotton, and Reddocks. She is survived by her children, Brenda (Joby) Norman, Billy Charles, Jr. 'Chuck' (Deanna) Armstrong, and Julie Herrera; grandchildren Amanda (Justin) Thomas, Tiffany (Digger) Kimbro, Daniel (Chrissa) Coppage, Hunter Armstrong, Brianna (Jamey) Thomas, Delana Little, and Devin Duke; great-grandchildren: Taylor Thomas, Wade Varnadoe, Emalee Coppage, Trey Coppage, Charley Kimbro, Anna Gray Kimbro, Layton Quates and Kase Little; siblings Bobby (Wilma) Norsworthy, Sally Smith, and Phil Norsworthy, along with many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Phyllis retired after 27 years with the Alabama Power Company where she served at different locations. She was active in her community with different civic organizations throughout the years. She was a member of the Greenville Jaycettes, Pilot Club, and Georgiana Kiwanis Clubs. Phyllis served as Vice President and President for the Greenville Jaycettes and was District Vice President and scrapbook chairman for the Alabama Jaycettes during her 11 years as a member. She served as President and Vice President in the Pilot Club and on various committees for the state Pilot Club. She also served as secretary/treasurer for the American Legion Auxiliary Post 24. Phyllis loved helping the Kiwanis in planning the Hank Williams Festival. She got to meet many singers during those years.
Phyllis loved to travel with her late husband, the two went on many cruises together. She loved to play cards, dominos, and bingo. She also loved her flowers and watching hummingbirds. Phyllis was known as 'Nannie' by many, she was a caretaker and supported her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was also known as jokester, loved a good laugh and playing pranks. Phyllis was also strong-willed and instilled that in her children and grandchildren.
She was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Greenville, Alabama. Phyllis loved the Lord and her Savior Jesus Christ. She loved her family and will be dearly missed by all that knew her.
