Phillip Ranson Hancock, of Greenville, AL, was born on October 30, 1953, and died on December 12, 2024. His devoted parents, Dr. and Mrs. Charles "Chas" Sanders Hancock (Gloria) of Greenville, preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving wife, Jean Bennett Hancock (Greenville); two children, Anne Taber Hancock Fava (Scott) of Severna Park, MD, and Charles Phillip Hancock (Stephanie) of Atlanta, GA; step-children Julian Katz (Marie) of Mobile, Jennie Hamilton (Stirling) of Greenville, and Margery Trodd (Paul) of Santa Rosa Beach; grandchildren, Hastings and Taber Fava of Severna Park, MD, and Ale and Kit Uribe of Atlanta, GA; step-grandchildren, Bennett and Frances Katz of Mobile, Stirling and Stephen Hamilton of Greenville, and Cameron Martin of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; brothers Charles "Bunky" Hancock (Sharon) of Spanish Fort and David Hancock (Leshia) of Greenville; nieces and nephew, Laura Hancock, Jennifer Porter (Justin), Brady Burge (Isaac), Maryanne Burdg (Taylor), and Sanders Hancock (Codie Rose).

Phillip embodied family, faith and a profound sense of belonging. He had an unyielding belief in leaving this world better than it was found. On Saturdays in the fall, you could always count on a text that said, "Roll Gators!" Phillip will forever be remembered as singing Tom Petty while playing an air guitar, laughing at the beach, and relishing in the sheer joy of his grandchildren as their beloved Papa. Phillip forged many relationships through the sport of golf, which like his two brothers, he learned from their father. He achieved great success on the links. At just16-years-old, Phillip earned the AL State Junior Championship Title. As a player for Buster Bishop at the University of Florida, he helped his esteemed Gators win consecutive SEC and NCAA team championships. Before turning Pro his senior year, Phillip won the Florida Intercollegiate, the Chris Schenkel, and was awarded the prestigious Fred Haskins Award as well as the SEC individual champion title as a 1st Team All-American. "Phil's" PGA legacy extends beyond The Masters, winning The Hall of Fame Classic at Pinehurst #2, and years as the Head Pro at the Montgomery Country Club. Playing in Pro-Ams and instructing future golfers for over forty years were his favorite pastimes.

His funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on December 21, 2024, at Saint Thomas Episcopal Church in Greenville, AL, the Reverend Linda Suzanne Borgen, presiding. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be John Bates, Glenn Cooper, Ed Curtis, Dr. Hamp Greene, Steve Humphrey, Peter Jacobsen, Gary Koch, Wayne Nearing, Michael Pupello, Cecil "Tuffy" Rainey, Jim Ryan, and Art Steineker. Phillip's family will greet guests with a reception following the service at their home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests all memorial gifts be directed to Saint Thomas Episcopal Church, the ALS Association, and First Tee.
