Obituary

Peggy Jean Acker Albritton, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully at her home on October 30, 2026, at the age of 95. Peggy was born in Birmingham, Alabama on July 19, 1931, to William Walter Acker and Claudia Skinner Acker. She spent much of her childhood growing up in Wilcox County, which she always considered home. She was a 1949 graduate of Wilcox County High School and made Camden home all her adult life. She married Felix Reginald (Reg) Albritton, Jr. on September 8, 1949.

Peggy was truly a Proverbs 31 virtuous woman, strong, wise, compassionate, faithful, devoted, and generous, who taught her children by example. She loved and served first and foremost, her Lord and Savior, but her family, friends and community were also dear to her heart. She and Reg built a beautiful life and family together. They owned an oil business for many years where she was the bookkeeper. She was also her husband’s biggest supporter in his political career, serving alongside him in the Wilcox County Probate Office where she made many life-long friends. Affectionately known as “Mamaw”, her greatest joy was her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Her love and support were second to none, always putting the needs of her family before her own. She never forgot a birthday whether it was family or friends. She was a skilled seamstress and wonderful cook. She loved Mexican Train dominos and looked forward to any opportunity to play whether it be with family or friends.

Peggy made a profession of faith and was baptized on July 1, 1945, at Camden Baptist Church where she remained a faithful member for 81 years. Over the years, she taught Sunbeams, Vacation Bible School, helped prepare Wednesday night suppers and assisted in fund raisers for youth mission trips. She spent much of her retired years leading and serving on the church’s In-Home Ministry. She regularly baked banana bread to carry and visit shut-ins and sick. When she was no longer able to visit in person, she continued to minister to others by phone and with cards. In addition to her church service, Peggy was also active in her community. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary, Daughters of American Revolution, Fidelis Garden Club of Camden, and Homemaker’s Club. She received the Book of Golden Deeds Award from the local Exchange Club in 2021 for her community service and civic contributions.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Reg, of 39 years; an infant son; her parents; brother, William Walter (Bubba) Acker, Jr; sisters, Claudia Louise Grindle and Lula Mae Jones; great-grandson, Pope Albritton Terry. She is survived by her son, Felix Reginald Albritton, III (Jen) and children, Rusty Albritton (Angie), Forrest Albritton (Julie), Stephanie Milnes (John), Christopher Risoldi (Nikki) and Jessica Duncan; daughter, Peggy Albritton Terry (Steven) and children, Regina Barr (Rob), Steve Terry (Wesley Ann), Robert Terry and Stephanie O’Mary (Chase); son, William Wood Albritton (Lou) and children, Will Albritton (Anna) and Margaret Anne Gilchrist (Justin); daughter, Dolly Dugger Albritton; brother, James Albert Acker, Sr. (Barbara); sister, Nancy Acker Wilkerson (Raleigh); 22 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Peggy’s life was lived well for her Lord, her family, and the many others that she touched during her 95 years on this earth. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Services will be held at Camden Baptist Church on November 4, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Eddie Davidson and Reverend Jamie Agee officiating. Interment at Camden Cemetery with visitation to follow. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Camden Baptist Church Advance the Mission or charity of your choice.

Pallbearers: Grandsons Rusty Albritton, Forrest Albritton, Steve Terry, Robert Terry, Will Albritton, Christopher Risoldi, Rob Barr, Chase O’Mary, and Justin Gilchrist.
