Nell Kinney Lazenby, 90, died on Saturday, March 5, 2011. Funeral services will be held at Forest Home United Methodist Church on Wednesday, March 9th at 11:00 a.m. with Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow in Forest Home Cemetery. Miss Lazenby will lie in state from 10:30-11:00 a.m. prior to services.
She was born in Forest Home, Alabama on December 11, 1920 to Sallie and Vandiver Lazenby. Nell grew up in Forest Home. She graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Education and was an active member of Kappa Delta social sorority. After graduating, Nell taught elementary school in Forest Home, Andalusia, Birmingham, Selma and Estes, Florida. Nell was a lifelong member of the Forest Home United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and oversaw the cemetery fund for many years. She loved the Forest Home community and was most happy when she was there. Nell was loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Sallie Atkins and Vandiver Lazenby, and her sisters Sara Lazenby Richardson and Vandalyn Lazenby Chaplin. She is survived by her sister Edna Lazenby Harris of Decatur, and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks goes to Linda Moorer and others who so lovingly cared for Nell during the last years of her life.
