Millard Mason Roberts departed this life October 10, 2014. He was born December 18, 1930, to Eva Swan Roberts and Millard Fillmore Roberts in Samoset, Florida. After attending Samoset Elementary School and Manatee High School he attended the University of Florida. There he affiliated with the Beta Theta Pi fraternity and was Chancellor of the Honor Court 1951-52, before resigning over the university's treatment of a cheating scandal. After graduating with Honors in Elementary Education he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1952, serving at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. He was honorably discharged in 1956. In 1959 as a student at the New Orleans Baptist Seminary he met Anita Watts, of Greenville, Alabama. They married June 14, 1960, in Greenville. In 1962 he enrolled in the University of Miami School of Medicine. Upon receiving his M.D. in 1966 he did internships at the Charity Hospitals of New Orleans and Lafayette, Louisiana, and a Residency in Gastroenterology at the University of Alabama Medical Center in Birmingham. In 1972 Dr. Roberts opened Tallahassee's first practice of Gastroenterology, and maintained the practice until retiring in 1996. After that time he served as a locum tenens physician, directed medical services for opiate dependence at the Leon County Treatment Center, and maintained his orange grove in Terra Ceia, Florida. He is survived by his wife Anita Roberts; their children Timothy Roberts, married to Emily Roberts, of Macomb, Illinois; Anne Gibson, married to Tom Gibson, of Bozeman, Montana; and David Roberts, married to Kristin Roberts, of Tallahassee; and Millard's sister Virginia Barco and brother William Roberts, both of Bradenton; and eight grandchildren. The family plans a funeral service followed by visitation at First Baptist Church in Tallahassee on Monday, October 13, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. A graveside service will be held at Magnolia Cemetery in Greenville, Alabama, on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with The Honorable Mark Kennedy officiating and Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home directing.
