IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Michael Steele
Vick
April 10, 1951 – September 16, 2025
Michael Steele Vick, 74, of Camden, Alabama passed away at UAB Medical Center on September 16, 2025. While deeply saddened by their loss, his family is comforted by the knowledge that he has returned to his Lord.
Mike was born on April 10, 1951, to Ernestine McIntosh Vick and James Preston Vick, Jr. He attended Wilcox County High School in Camden, Alabama and Auburn University. In 1973 he married the love of his life, Donna Ray. They were married for 52 years and had four children whom he loved unconditionally.
Mike was loving, loyal, and truly had a servant's heart. He devoted more than 30 years of his life to coaching youth sports in Wilcox County and made a lasting impression on the lives of countless young men. Over the last few years of his life, Mike and his family heard from dozens of men, many of them now fathers themselves, who spoke of the incredible impact he had on their lives.
When not coaching or spending time with his children and grandchildren, Mike loved being outdoors, turkey hunting and being with his second family - his golfing group that met every Sunday afternoon for decades. His quick wit and humor were irrepressible. Mike was always the laughter in the room.
Above all else, Mike gave of himself freely. He loved the Lord and he loved others. The depth of devotion he had for his children was only surpassed by the immense love he had for his grandchildren and the immeasurable joy they brought him. His family was more important to him than anything, and his grandchildren were the crowning achievement of his life.
Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Carrie Vick, and James Collie and Minnie Lee McIntosh; his parents, James Preston Vick, Jr, and Ernestine and Osman Maness; and by his siblings Clifford Osman Maness, Jr, Trudy Vick Dunnam, and James Preston Vick, III.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Donna Vick of Camden, Alabama; his siblings Caralie Roberson of Dothan, Alabama, Carly Hinson of Excel, Alabama, and Phil Maness of Camden, Alabama; his children Jennifer Sampson (Paul) of Lehi, Utah, Amanda Lambert (Les) of Camden, Alabama, Karen Scarbrough (Curtis) of Camden, Alabama, and Josh Vick (Mary Margaret) of Homewood, Alabama; grandchildren Will Sampson (Paige) of Pleasant Grove, Utah, Anna Kate Scarbrough of Auburn, Alabama, Miller Lambert of Quantico, Virginia, Emily Lambert of Auburn, Alabama, Mandy Scarbrough of Auburn, Alabama, Walker Sampson of Lehi, Utah, Merrell Sampson of Lehi, Utah, Mallie Sampson of Lehi, Utah, Charlie Vick of Homewood, Alabama, and Annie Vick of Homewood, Alabama; and great-granddaughter Hadley Sampson of Pleasant Grove, Utah; and many nieces and nephews.
