IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Michael Terry
Mccann
June 28, 1962 – October 10, 2021
Michael Terry McCann was born in Stuttgart, Germany, on June 28, 1962, to Melton and Gerda McCann. At six weeks old the family came to the US, an America soldier, his German bride and their firstborn son.
Although Army life required they travel often, their home base was Greenville, Alabama and most of their lives were spent here.
As soon as he could, Michael Terry joined the Army, following in his dad's footsteps. He was in aviation and attained the rank of Sgt., as a crew chief in helicopters. He met and married Letecia Spann and from that union, Jessica was born.
His second marriage to Dawn Nesbitt, resulted in the birth of Brittany.
In 1992, he married Laura Conway and that is where my story begins. When we went on our first date in 1990, we both knew there was something special between us. Our first date was to a New Years Eve party and we were inseparable from that time on.
Our marriage brought Micah, Callie, and Grace, into our lives.
Michael Terry worked several jobs, but eventually became a self made man, by starting his own electronics technology business. He was very proud of being able to support us through this business and in starting it, fulfilled one of his dreams, to be an entrepreneur.
The business was thriving until 2008, when an old back injury, morphed into debilitating, chronic pain. He was declared disabled in 2015. He was the strongest man I know, because of and in spite of his pain. Many people cannot live with the level of pain he did and consequently, they choose to exit this world. He chose to stay with us, regardless of having little to no hope of ever finding relief from the agony of his injury.
He was tender hearted and had an affinity for animals. Our pets brought him so much joy and companionship, on those long days at home alone, until the children or I arrived home each day.
I retired from my job, March 1st of 2020 and used my accrued leave time to be home with him every day, for ten precious months, before he became ill and ultimately left us, on October 10, 2021. I will forever consider that to be one of my most precious gifts.
He is preceded in death by his beloved grandmother, Lucille Salter, two uncles, Billy McCann and Carlos Spitaleri and by his precious mother, Gerda McCann, just two years ago.
He is survived by his father, Melton McCann, his brother, Marcus McCann, one uncle Robert McCann(Mildred) and his aunt, Kathy Cruise(Bill), his bride of thirty years, Laura, his children, Jessica Taylor(Dan), Brittany Griffin(Jessie), Micah McCann(fiancé Kayla), Callie McCann, and Grace Cardone(Andrew), and his grandchildren, Axl Taylor, Sy Taylor, Brye Taylor, Annabelle Thurman, Braxton Thurman and numerous cousins and friends.
A Memorial Celebration of Life will take place, Saturday, Oct 16, 2021, at 3pm, in Fort Deposit, at the Alabama All-Star Opry.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted in his name, to the charity of choice, of the benefactor
