Maude Ellen Newton Sims went to be with the Lord on March 7, 2016, at the age of 94.
A memorial service will be Thursday, March 10, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. from First Baptist Church of Greenville with Reverend Chase Clower and Reverend Eddie Newton officiating and Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

She was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Greenville, Alabama for over 60 years, as well as a loving wife and mother. After her children were grown, she enjoyed helping customers at Murphy's Clothing Store.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Arthur and Ethel Newton; sisters: Mildred Mixon and JoAnn Harrison; brother: James Newton; husband of 49 years: James Emmett Sims; and granddaughter: Jana Ellen Nix. Survivors include a brother: T.A. Newton; daughters: Jan Firzgerald, Ellen Nix Dawkins (Rex Akins), and Sonya Rice (Ron); grandchildren: Shannon Fitzgerald Gandy (Stephen), Cory Rice, Courtney Rice, Jessica Rice Lowe (Grant), and Tyler Rice; great grandchildren: Jessica Moulas, Brantley Gandy, Perri Gandy, and Jameson Lowe. Pallbearers are nephews Eddie Newton, Tom Newton, Greg Newton, Bob Mixon, Gary Harrison, and Jeff Harrison. The family thanks Shannon Gandy and the staff of Comfort Care Hospice for their loving care.
