IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary David
Harrison Mccraney
October 30, 1933 – January 20, 2023
Mary David Harrison McCraney, 89 years old and a lifetime resident of Fort Deposit, Alabama, left her earthly home on January 20, 2023 for her eternal home in heaven. She was born October 30, 1933 to the late David Wescott Harrison and Daisy Harbin Harrison. The funeral service will be Monday, January 23, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Dunklin Funeral Home with Minister David Sargeant officiating and Dunklin Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow at Myrtlewood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, William E. (Bill) McCraney.
Mrs. McCraney was a faithful and dedicated member of the Fort Deposit Church of Christ, exemplifying a true servant heart in every aspect of her life. She was recognized by the Fort Deposit Arts Council as "Fort Deposit Citizen of the Year" and on her 80th birthday presented with a proclamation from the mayor on behalf of the town.
She held a number of jobs outside the home as secretary and bookkeeper, none of which were dearer to her than her work at Lowndes County High School in the mid-sixties and her many years at Fort Deposit Academy where she was a mother to far more than her own biological children. As her grandchildren came along and grew up, she quickly became known more affectionately as "Grandmama" to almost everyone.
"Miss Mary David" was a woman who loved everyone, and everyone loved her. She was wholeheartedly devoted to God, her family and her friends. Her sweet spirit and sense of humor drew people to her. She will be missed dearly by so many but especially her children: son, Howard (Julie) McCraney of Tuscaloosa and daughters, Sharon (Ronnie) Paulk, and Leigh McCraney of Fort Deposit, her 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Never has there been a grandmother who loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren any more than "Grandmama." They will miss her love and laughter but have memories to cherish forever. Praise God!
The family would like to thank Gracie Alexander and Geraldine Gipson for their loving and devoted care over the last few years.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to AGAPE of Central Alabama, 3800 Vaughn Rd., Montgomery, AL 36106.
