Jones, Lula Mae, 92, a resident of Camden, AL died Saturday, October 4, 2014 at the Camden Nursing Facility. Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Camden Baptist Church, with Rev. Bob Weber and Dr. Edwin S. Jones officiating and Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home of Camden directing. Burial will follow in Camden City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday prior to service. Lula Mae was preceded in death by her parents, William and Claudia Acker; husband: Virginius Jones; son: Paul Acker Jones; sister: Claudia Louise (Acker) Grindle; and brother: William Walter Acker, Jr. Lula Mae is survived by her daughter, Sara Frances Jones (Edwin); son: Virginius Walker Jones, Jr.(Beverly); 5 grandchildren: Meredith Lauren Jones Smith (Scott), Darlene Elizabeth Jones, Brian Paul Jones (Kathleen), Morgan Grant Jones (Ashley), Matthew Scott Jones (Liz); 8 great-grandchildren: Lane Walker Jones, Chase Alston Jones, Cody Dean Smith, Makayle Skye Smith, Colton Grant Jones, Reese Channing Jones, Lilah Isabel Jones, and Caison Wyatt Jones; sisters: Peggy Albritton (Reg) and Nancy Wilkerson (Raleigh); brother: James Albert Acker (Barbara). Pallbearers will be Bill Albritton, Reg Albritton, Ken Acker, Dale Acker, Jimmy Acker, and Bill Jones. Lula Mae was born July 18, 1922 in Demopolis, AL, to William Walter and Claudia (Skinner) Acker and was the oldest of six children. She graduated from Wilcox County High School and attended the University of Montevallo, where she majored in Home Economics. Lula Mae married Virginius Walker Jones in Selma, AL on June 15, 1947. They were the parents of three children. She was a bookkeeper and worked with her husband at Matthews Hardware for many years. She later worked at Lambert Enterprises and R. E. Lambert Seed Company in Darlington, AL. She was an excellent cook and famous for her caramel cakes and cheese straws, which she generously shared with family and friends. She became a member of the Camden Baptist Church in 1938 and was a faithful member her entire life. She was an active member of the DAR, UDC, and numerous other clubs in Camden, AL. Memorials can be made to Camden Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.
