Linda Averett Hagood, 80, of Valley Grande, Alabama, passed away on October8, 2026. Affectionally known to everyone as "Me Maw," she was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose life was devoted to caring for others.
Born on July 6, 1946, Linda spent her life nurturing children as a preschool teacher and daycare director. her care extended well beyond her own family, touching the lives of the many children she taught throughout the years. She attended Northside Baptist Church, loved cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide, and cherished spending time at the beach.
Above all, Linda loved her family. She was always willing to help someone in need and brought warmth, love, and a little feistiness to the lives of those who knew her. To those who called her Me Maw, she leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of love that will continue through generations.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, William "Bill" Averett and Sara Averett, and her brother, Tim Averett.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Jimmy Hagood; and her children, Susan Hagood Hornsby (Joe), Sherry Hagood McDonnell (Dennis), and David Hagood (Katie); her grandchildren, Brent Hagood (Ruth), Bryant Hornsby (Katie), Katelyn McDonnell Andrus (Sam), Christopher McDonnell (Jessica), John Paul McDonnell (Brittni), Braxton Hagood, Lexi Hagood, and Summer Hagood; and her great-grandchildren, Brentlee Hagood, Evelyn Hagood, Cash Hornsby, Everly Hornsby, Adalyn McDonnell, Brody McDonnell, and Magnolia Andrus.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Linda's special caregiver, Brenda Jones, for the kindness compassion, and loving care she provided. Her dedication to Linda will always be remembered and deeply appreciated.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Sawyer Cemetery in Sandy Ridge, Alabama.
