Sara Narcissa Harris

Lieutenant Colonel Sara Narcissa Harris, USAF Retired. Sara was born on August 4, 1920 in Possum Bend, Alabama to Narcissa Goree McDowell Harris and William Peyton Harris, Sr.. She grew up in Possum Bend, and attended Camden Elementary School and Wilcox County High School, graduating in the class of 1938. She attended Montevallo College, graduating in 1942. Sara served 25 plus years in the United States Women's Army Corps, the Women's Air Force, and the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Sara was truly an amazing woman. If you were fortunate enough to know her, your life was impacted in a positive way.
Sara was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers (and sisters in law) William Peyton Harris, Jr. (Lois), and Henry Franklin "Demp" Harris (Marion), sisters (and brothers in law) Julia Zimmerman Harris Jones (Col. Holmes), and Mary Emma Harris Godbold (Stanley), nephew Stanley David Godbold, Jr, and special friends, Major Renie R. King and Ms. Frances Blackmon.
She is survived by her nephews, William Peyton "Billy" Harris III (Renate), Donald Wesley Godbold (Martha), Henry Franklin "Frank" Harris, Jr., Floyd McDowell Harris (Mary Jane), and nieces, Nancy McDowell Godbold Mirkheshti (Akbar), and Julia Ann Harris Handly (Dudly), along with many great, great great, great great great nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Colonel Harris will be held at her home, Liberty Hall, 627 Highway 221, Camden, Alabama on Thursday, November 3, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held at the Camden City Cemetery on Broad Street on Saturday, November 5, 2022 beginning at 1:00 p.m. with Dunklin Funeral Home directing.
Honorary Pallbearers will be friend Jimmie Travis, and nephews Billy Harris, Donald Godbold, Frank Harris, Floyd Harris, and great nephews Derek Godbold, Park Harris, and Rusty Harris.
Active Pallbearers will be great nephews Sam Mosley, Hank Mosley, Daniel Harris, Zach Godbold, Josh Godbold, Wes Godbold, and Bijan Mirkheshiti.
