Karen Vick
Scarbrough
December 14, 1978 – May 7, 2026
Karen Vick Scarbrough, 47, passed away tragically in a car accident May 7, 2026. While beyond saddened by her loss, her family and friends find peace and comfort in God's promises of Heaven and the hope of being reunited with her again.
Karen was born on December 14, 1978, to Donna and Michael Vick. She attended Wilcox County Academy where she spent her days with her cousins and many friends. Karen obtained her bachelor's degree from Auburn University Montgomery, leading to the completion of her Master's degree in Special Education On August 3, 2002 she married her greatest love, Curtis Scarbrough. For the past twenty-three years they have built a beautiful life and family with their two children, Anna Kate and Mandy. Karen led their family with grace and confidence. Karen was loving, faithful, and truly extraordinary. For 22 years of her life, she devoted her talents to her students and coworkers. Teaching was never just a profession to her-it was her calling. She flourished in her role as an educator. She believed her children deserved to be valued, loved, and seen and she worked tirelessly to make sure they knew how capable and exceptional they truly were. Her coworkers became lifelong friends - her steady presence made her a source of comfort to everyone around her. The lessons she taught reached far beyond her classroom and her influence will continue to live on in the countless lives she shaped throughout her career.
When Karen wasn't pouring into her students, she was at home pouring into her family. She found the most joy in simple things - needlepointing gifts for those that she loved most, spending countless hours outside, cutting grass - hers and everyone else's, and teaching every single one of her nieces and nephews to swim - more than once. No matter how ordinary the moment, Karen made it feel extraordinary. She brought warmth and joy into her home and everywhere she went.
She was a woman of deep faith who loved the Lord with all her heart. She had a caring spirit and a servant's heart. One of her greatest gifts was her ability to connect with others and make them feel special. Above all these things, she was fiercely devoted to her family. Karen loved her husband and her children who were the center of her world. The love she gave so freely will live on through her family and in the hearts of all those who loved and knew her. She was "our best girl."
Karen is preceded in death by her father, Michael Vick; her daughter Mary McIntosh; her father-in-law, R.C. Scarbrough.
She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Curtis Scarbrough; her children, Anna Katherine Scarbrough, and Amanda Leigh Scarbrough; her mother, Donna Vick; her siblings, Jennifer Sampson (Paul), Amanda Lambert (Les), and Josh Vick (Mary Margaret); her nieces and nephews, Will Sampson (Paige), Miller Lambert, Emily Lambert, Merrell Sampson, Mallie Sampson, Charlie Vick, and Annie Vick; great niece, Hadley Sampson.
