John Minnis Smith, known by those who loved him most as Pappy, died in the privacy of his own home surrounded by love on Sunday, March 20, 2022. A Memorial Service will be held in John's honor on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at The First Baptist Church of Greenville beginning at 3:00 p.m. with Reverend Michael Yancey officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to service time.

John was born in Montgomery Alabama to the late Park and Laura "Lali" Smith Jr.. John is survived by his loving wife who stuck by his side for 27 years, Donna Smith; children, Laura (Paul) Barsh, Tina (Curt) Miller, Michael (Louann) Manthey, Alishia (Bobby) Brooks, Nicole Betterton; adopted daughter, Meredith Boutwell; grandchildren, Sydney (Daniel) Shivers, Heather Trent, Charlie, Brandon, Ryan, Victoria, Riley, Lily, Carley, John Michael, Marcus (Beverley) Gress, Austin, Bobby, David, Cody, Chelsie, Derreck, Kyle, Heather Marie, Sean; great grandchildren, Ford, Bella, Dorian; sister, Sherry Kedis; nieces and nephews, Dianne (Danny) Webb, Robert Kyser, Tammy Joe, Timmy, Deanna and Tracy.

John had a lengthy career in the military, after his term was up in the United States Marine Core he decided to then join the United States Air Force where he served and ultimately retired after 20+ years of dedicated service. His time in the Airforce fed in to his adventurous soul taking him to places like Cuba, Grenada, Panama, and the Middle East during his career. John received many metals, certificates and accolades for his courageous time served protecting his country and those that he loved. None of the adventures his military service took him on held a candle to the ones he got to experience with his family. John enjoyed spending his free time outdoors with his wife and a many of his children as possible. He was a simple man who enjoyed watching the bunnies and other wildlife that like to take up residence in his yard. Family was the most important thing to Pappy. He will be deeply missed by the entire bunch.
