John Michael
Moorer
Sep 14, 1959 — Oct 13, 2026
Fort Deposit, AL
John Michael “Mike” Moorer, 67, of Fort Deposit, Alabama, passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of love, faith, hard work, and cherished memories with his family and friends.
Born on September 14, 1959, in Selma, Alabama, Mike was the son of the late John Calvin and Anita Louise Moorer. He grew up in Fort Deposit and attended Fort Deposit Academy. Mike proudly served his country for six years in the United States Air Force before building a long career in electrical maintenance. A farmer at heart, Mike enjoyed his time and took pride in raising chickens and cattle, finding joy and purpose in being on the farm.
Mike was a man of strong Christian faith who believed in living his life through service, humility, and love. He attended Fort Deposit Church of Christ and Walnut Street Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon at both congregations. His faith was not simply something he spoke about; it was something he lived every day. Many mornings, before the day's work began, Mike could be found sitting quietly in his chair, reading his Bible. His relationship with God guided the way he lived, the way he treated others, and the values he passed down to his family.
Those who knew Mike knew that he was never one to sit still. Whether tending to his cattle, working around the farm, repairing something that was broken, or lending a helping hand to someone in need, he was happiest when he was using his hands. He was a man who rarely complained, never shied away from a challenge, and believed that if something was worth doing, it was worth doing right the first time. He had a remarkable ability to fix just about anything and was always willing to use that gift to help others, never expecting anything in return.
When he wasn't working, Mike enjoyed watching football, especially his beloved Alabama Crimson Tide. During football season, Saturdays often meant a television tuned to a game, with Mike flipping from channel to channel to catch a little bit of every matchup. It was one of the simple pleasures that brought him happiness.
Above all else, Mike was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud Paw-Paw. He shared a beautiful life with his wife, Shelley Kay Moorer, with whom he would have celebrated 42 years of marriage in February. Together, they built a family rooted in faith, love, and dedication to one another.
Mike loved his children and grandchildren beyond measure. He worked hard to provide for his family, but more importantly, he led by example. He taught them the importance of loving God, working hard, helping others, and taking pride in everything they did. As a Paw-Paw, he found great joy in his grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to spoil them or make them feel loved. The lessons he taught, the sacrifices he made, and the love he gave will remain with them for generations to come.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Shelley Kay Moorer; his children, Weyman Dale Jones (Tish), Tyler Wilton Moorer (Chrissy), and Brittney Moorer Lakes (Ashley); and his beloved grandchildren, Kaylee Barganier, Nathan Jones, Kassidy Barganier, Katie Jones, Carter Moorer, and Ava Moorer. He is also survived by his brothers, David Moorer, Dale Moorer, and Jeff Moorer; his sister, Beth Wheeler; and many extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Calvin and Anita Louise Moorer.
Mike will be remembered as a man whose hands were rarely idle, whose heart was always willing to help, and whose faith in God remained steadfast. He didn't need recognition or praise for the things he did. He simply believed in doing what was right, taking care of his family, and being there when someone needed him.
While his family will deeply miss his presence, his steady guidance, and the comfort of knowing he was always there, they will carry forward the values he lived by every day. His greatest legacy will not be found in the things he built or repaired, but in the lives he touched, the family he loved, and the example he left behind.
A life built on faith, strengthened by hard work, and devoted to family is a life well lived.
Services will be held Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Walnut Street Church of Christ, 306 Walnut St., Greenville, AL 36037.Visitation will be from 12:00–2:00 PM, with the funeral service immediately following. Burial will follow at Myrtlewood Cemetery, 10 Golson Circle, Fort Deposit, AL 36032.
