Jennifer Ann Britt

Loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Jennifer Ann Britt, passed away Saturday, February 28, 2026, at her home in Huntsville, Alabama, surrounded by her family. She was born in DeWitt, Arkansas, November 5, 1947, to Carl and Barbara Young Long. She met her husband of 59 years, Mitchell, as a teenager at Barton Heights Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee. They spent the majority of their lives together on Locust Avenue in Huntsville, where they raised their two children.

A French hand sewing specialist, Jenny spent many years creating exquisite, one-of-a-kind period-inspired christening and wedding gowns for clients, pieces that will be handed down for generations. She was a highly sought-after designer of period-specific draperies and bed treatments for historic homes in Alabama and beyond. Her preservation work can be seen at Magnolia Glen, Circa 1833, Wakefield, Circa 1847, Liberty Hall, Circa 1850, and other antebellum homes throughout the South. Jenny was the first female entrepreneur to establish an independent restaurant on the square in Downtown Huntsville, The Huntsville Inn, and was primarily responsible for the Huntsville High School Band traveling to Vienna, Austria, in 1988, establishing a tradition of international travel that continues today.

Jenny was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Barbara Long. She is survived by her husband, Mitchell Britt; her children, Lance Britt and Aimee Britt Davis; the grandson she cherished, Sage Davis; and her sister, Nancy Long Griffin of Germantown, Tennessee.

Her family will receive guests Thursday, March 5, at 10:00 a.m. at Bethsaida Baptist Church, in Furman, Alabama, with a service to follow at 11:00 a.m. She will be laid to rest immediately following in Palmer Cemetery on the grounds of her beloved farm Magnolia Glen, the historic home she and Mitchell restored for over twenty years in Wilcox County.

Memorials may be sent to Bethsaida Baptist Church, PO Box 45, Furman, AL 36741, to continue the preservation of the church and other structures in Furman.
