Janet Lou Marcontell Sellers was born August 29, 1944 in Saratoga, Texas to Albert and Betty Lou Marcontell. She and her family moved to Houston when she and her younger brother, David, were very young. Janet graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1962. She married Carl Brandon Sellers, Jr. on July 13, 1963. She worked several years to help put her husband through school. In 1968, she gave birth to her first child, Carl Brandon Sellers, III. Four years later she gave birth to her daughter, Julie Dawn Sellers. In 1974, she graduated from The University of Houston with a Bachelor of Science in Education. In 1974, Carl, Janet and their children moved to Greenville, Alabama. That same year, Janet accepted her first teaching position as a fourth grade teacher at Greenville Elementary School from then super intentendent Shelby Searcy. Her career spanned for 25 years in the Butler County School System, where she taught in the same classroom from her first day until her last day. She met her closest friends at Greenville Elementary School, including Mrs. Jean Faulkner. She retired in 1999, just in time to take care of her second granddaughter, Sellers. Janet and Carl kept Sellers and Dailyn until they both started school where she instilled in them a love of education just as she had done for thousands of children in Butler County over the 25 year she taught in the public school system. A devoted wife of 51 years, and a nurturing mother and grandmother, Janet dedicated her life to her family, friends and her beloved students.
