James Marion (Jim) Allen, Sr, 84, died peacefully on Sunday, August 22, 2021 in Cape Coral, Florida. Jim was born on January 24, 1937, in Drew, Mississippi to Mary Ola Parks and John Roscoe Allen. He was an only child, moved to Pass Christian, Mississippi as a teenager, and graduated from Pass Christian High School.
Jim dedicated his professional life to Civil Service of the U.S. Air Force, progressing in his career while moving the family from Pass Christian to Laredo, Texas and then San Antonio, Texas, and finally to Montgomery, Alabama. Jim retired as a Data Systems Analyst after a long and successful career. He was also an ordained minister and worked part-time as a Pastor and Music Minister.
Jim dedicated his personal life to serving God and sharing his faith with all of those who were around him or who crossed his path. He was also a gifted musician and shared his love of music with family and friends. He brought joy and laughter to those he sang and played for or with, throughout his life.
Jim is survived by his wife, Carol Atwood; three sons from a previous marriage, James Allen, Jr. (Benita), Ed Allen (Nancy), and Mickey Allen (Denise); seven grandchildren, Nicholas Allen (Susan), Lindsey Miller (Ashley), Jordy Cheney (Ben), Connor Allen, Jessie Adams (Daniel), Claire Ford (Spenser), and Bryant Allen; and seven great-grandchildren, Lillie Cate, Easton, Nora Blake, Copeland, Simon, Collyns, and Anna Joyce.
Jim was preceded in death by his previous wife Anna Byrd Allen, and leaves behind her two daughters, Jennie Jones (Chuck) and Carrie Cozart (Roy), along with her seven grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his mother Mary Ola Parks Holman and his stepfather Herb Holman.
A service celebrating Jim's life will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Prattville, Alabama at 1:00 PM on Monday, August 30, 2021. Visitation will precede the service, beginning at 12:00 PM. Burial will be at Magnolia Cemetery in Greenville, AL at 3:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Jim Allen to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (

) in support of his great-grandchild Simon, or to the charity of your choice.
