Obituary

Harold Jackson Harrison, 86, born October 22, 1939, went home to be with his Lord and Savior in the early morning hours of Sunday, May 3, 2026, while resting comfortably with his family.

Harold was born in Greenville, Alabama, to Martha Ora and Irby Roy Harrison. He attended Auburn University on the Walter O. Parmer Scholarship and earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering. He then went to the University of Alabama where he earned his PhD. While at Auburn, he met the love of his life, Sandra Coker Harrison, and they were married for 61 years. Together, they spent most of their adult lives in Huntsville, Alabama, and Marietta, Georgia.

Harold was a longtime, faithful member of Whitesburg Baptist Church in Huntsville and then Eastside Baptist Church in Marietta, GA. When they moved back to Huntsville in 2016, they attended Rivertree Church.

In addition to his wife, Sandra, Harold is survived by his 4 children: Ronnie and his wife Melissa, Lisa and her husband Russell, Lori and her husband Craig, and Scott and his wife Justine; and his 12 grandchildren: Nathan (Abby), Kimberly, Caleb, David, Matthew, Emily (Tim), Josh, Luke, Charlotte, Jack, Malin, and Coen. He is also survived by his sister Louise Byrd. He was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond, and his sister, Mary Emma.

Harold worked very hard and excelled in his career as an engineer but never allowed money or career to become his primary focus. Instead, family was always the driving force behind his decisions. He was happiest watching his children and grandchildren play sports; working on anything and everything with an engine; building things with his hands, from a playhouse to bookshelves to a bunkbed loft; doing acts of service for his wife and children; browsing the aisles of the local Goodwill; applying duct tape to just about anything; obsessively baking seemingly random items (pizzas, teacakes, cookies, etc.) until he found perfection; and in quiet, tucked away moments, playing his guitar.

Harold will be deeply missed, but his legacy of faith, hard work, and devotion to family will live on through his children and grandchildren. A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Antioch East Baptist Church Cemetery with Brother Bruce Coker Officiating and Dunklin Funeral Home Directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time inside the church. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made in his memory to Lifeline Church (PO Box 217, Greenville, AL 36037). https://lifelinegreenville.com/online-giving/
