Obituary

Glennie Ruth (Gaston) Scurlock, lovingly known as "Granny Oots," went to be with her Lord on Monday, February 17, 2014. She was born on January 23, 1918 in Lowndes County, AL and was raised around Greenville and Georgiana, AL. She loved growing up in small communities. She was the daughter of a cotton farmer and was disappointed that she could not pick 100 pounds of cotton in one day. Glennie moved with her three children to Pensacola in 1957.
Glennie was a talented Quilter and spent several enjoyable years as a member of the Pensacola Quilter's Guild. She was very "proud she could thread her own needle." Glennie could never throw away any scrap of material. She always found some pattern she could use it in. She was able to make small stitches even into her 90's. Every quilt she made was stitched by hand and with a lot of love!
As a longstanding member of Whitfield Baptist Church, Glennie loved her Lord and her family.
She was preceded in death by: her father, James William Reventa Gaston; mother, Annie Irene Luckie Gaston; husband, Omega Craig; husband, Aaron Scurlock; four brothers and their spouses; two sisters and their spouses; and one granddaughter, Robyn Scurlock.
Remaining to cherish Glennie's memory are: two sons, Vastine (JoAnn) Craig and Billy Craig; one daughter, Patricia (Dave) Darville; two stepsons, David (Betty) and Larry (Pam) Scurlock; grandchildren, Tim (Mistie) Craig, Alan Craig, Sendi Odom, Steve (Carla) Hebb, Christi (Todd) Pearson, Sharra (Matthew) Clark, Randy, Ritchie, Robbie, Bryan, Jake and Luke Scurlock and Wendy (Jerry) Vanderzanden; numerous great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
Her visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Pine Summit Baptist Church in Pensacola on Thursday, February 20, 2014. Trahan Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
She will also have a visitation at 10:00 a.m. and continuing until her funeral service begins at 11:00 a.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church in Greenville, AL on Saturday, February 22, 2014 with Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home directing. Interment will follow in the Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery.
Glennie's family would like to extend a special thank you to Covenant Hospice and Baptist Hospital for their loving and tender care of "Granny Oots".
