Obituary

G lenda Tate Pitts Fritz, 89, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2024.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Dunklin Funeral Home with Brother Herbert Brown officiating and Dunklin Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery.  The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time.

Born June 5, 1935, Glenda was the fourth child of Paul Everette Tate, Sr. and Eddie May Coleman Tate.  She graduated from Greenville High School in 1953 and met the love of her life, Arlin, while they were both attending Auburn University.  She went on to receive her BS in Education from Auburn and her MS in Counseling from AUM.

Glenda's legacy as an educator in the Butler County school system for 29 years and as a devoted member of Southside Baptist Church highlights her lifelong commitment to nurturing and inspiring others through her teaching, community service, and family values.  She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading, and the annual camping trips made with her family for Mother's Day.  Glenda also had a passion for flowers, birds, and butterflies which provided her with much enjoyment.  While cherishing her roles as "Mama" and "Nanna", she created lasting memories with her loved ones.  Glenda's influence will be remembered fondly by family, friends, and students alike.

Glenda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Arlin Pitts; her son, John Arlin Pitts, Jr.; a brother, Edward Duke Tate; and two sisters, Elaine Tate Walling and Mabel Tate Crumpton.

She is survived by her daughters, Melanie (Keith) Stonestreet, Johnna Pitts, and Glenda Gaye Scott; two brothers, Paul E. Tate, Jr. and James Benjamin (Catalina) Tate; grandchildren, Ben (Janie) Mixon, Whitney (Zach) Stillwell, Jordan (Mayra Vasquez) Campbell, Jerald (Alyssa) Scott, Jessica (Damien Chiavaroli) Scott, O. C. (Elissa) Scott, III; 17 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express our thanks for the help and care given by Enhabit Hospice with a special thanks to Catherine, Brenda, and Nancy.  We are forever indebted to Mama's caregiver, Brenda Smith, for her love and support.
