Obituary

McCrory, Frances Elvira, 91, a resident of Selma and formerly of Greenville, AL, died Monday, February 16, 2015, at Southland Nursing Home in Marion, AL. A graveside service will be Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Magnolia Cemetery with Reverend Mike Phillips officiating and Dunklin and Daniels Funeral Home of Greenville directing. There will be no public visitation.
Elvira is one of 5 children born to John A. and Frances Adams McCrory. She was also preceded in death by her brothers: Dr. John Adams McCrory and Dr. Vastine Stabler McCrory.
She is survived by her sisters: Anne McCrory Hopkins of Millbrook, AL and Jane McCrory Phillips of Oak Hill, AL; sister-n-laws: Jean McCrory of Gordon, NE and June McCrory of Albertville, AL; and many nieces and nephews
Elvira was born in Greenville, AL on February 21, 1923 and graduated from Greenville High School in 1940. After high school she enrolled in Alabama College at Montevallo and graduated in 1944 with a Bachelor's Degree in Music from the University of Nebraska and studied at the Julliard School of Music in New York.
For many years Elvira taught music in the elementary schools of the Selma City School system. She also shared her musical talent by playing violin in the Montgomery Symphony, working with children's choirs and singing in the adult choir at the Cornerstone Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Selma Civic Chorus and taught private piano and violin lessons in her home.
