Edna Lou Mayo affectionately known as "Snooky" was born July 19, 1927, in Essex, NJ. Edna was the first-born child to William and Edna McDavit. She enjoyed all of her 97 years. She married Jack W. Mayo of Coral Gables, Florida. The two of them were attached at the hip. Edna always enjoyed being in business with her husband, Jack. They operated a grocery store in Jackson, Mississippi, and later a wholesale gift business, Gulf Coast Card Co., in St. Petersburg, Florida. They took great pleasure raising their children and spoiling their grandchildren and great grandchildren. They had a strong commitment to being active in the church and working with the youth, no matter where they lived. After they retired, Jack and Edna had 10 wonderful years at their river home in Greene County, Alabama, and later moved to the retirement village in Summerfield, Florida. After Jack passed away, she moved to Camden, Alabama. She immediately fell in love with her new community and became involved with the church, activities at Black Belt Treasures, the Garden Club and Friday Afternoon Club.
Edna was preceded in death by her husband Jack Ward Mayo, parents, Edna & William McDavit, and sister Patsy Casey. She is survived by daughters, Jeanie Lambert (Frank), of Camden, Al and Laura Parks of Knoxville, Tenn. Grandchildren, Margaret Ezell, (Matt), Mary Cox (Daryl), Emily Howard (Jon), Elizabeth Bryan (Taylor). Great grandchildren, Michael Houlditch, Sidney Bailey (Kedric), Madison Howard, Bo Cox, Annabel Howard, Jack Bryan, Eleanor Bryan, and Oakleigh Bailey.
A celebration of life will be held at First Presbyterian Church, PCA in Camden, at 203 Broad Street, Camden, Al 36726 on November 22, 2024. Visitation will begin at 11:00 followed by service at 11:30.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to Children's Hospital in Birmingham, Al at 1600 7th Ave South, Birmingham, Al, 35233 or St Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
The family would like to send their sincere gratitude, to Ursula Cole, Hettie Mack, Albany Mack, Lesha Johnson, Tonya Ridgeway, and Kiesha Ervin, who lovingly cared for our mother in her final years.
