Dr. Duane William Schliep, age 69, of Fultondale, Alabama, spent his last day on Earth on October 10th, 2014. He was born on January 13th, 1945 in Red Wing, Minnesota. He graduated from Central High School in 1963. He proudly joined the Navy while in high school and bravely served for 9 A½ years. During that time he fought in Vietnam aboard the USS America. He was called into the ministry on April 1st, 1973. He received his Bachelor of Ministry in Religious Education from Florida Baptist College in 1977. He went on to receive his Master of Divinity from Luther Rice Seminary in 1997 and proudly accepted his Doctor of Ministry in 2001 from Luther Rice Seminary. He touched many lives throughout his ministry and faithfully served the Lord pastoring churches for 34 years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Helen Schliep, his two daughters, Lisa Dailey (John), Lori Goodwin (Shane), six grandchildren, Kristina Marcus (Jacob), Lauren Dailey, Jessi Dailey, Gabe Goodwin, Sam Dailey, John William Dailey, his brothers, David, Dale and Darrell, and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Anna Schliep, and his brothers, Don and Dwight.
A Celebration of Life funeral service will be Saturday, October 18th, at 2 p.m. at Sharon Heights Baptist Church. Family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers family requests donations be made to the Gideon's or to the American Cancer Society.
