With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Dorothy Jewel Phelps Hughes of Greenville, Alabama, a devoted Christian and cherished aunt, who peacefully passed away at home on January 11, 2025, at the age of 92 surrounded by her loving family.

Dorothy Jewel will be lovingly remembered by her family, Michael (Brenda) Coker, Nana (Daniel) Moore, Jeff (Tonita) Bentley, Rhonda (Jason) Harrison, Tracy Bentley, Jeanie (Mack) Griffin, Larry (JoAnne) Hughes, Ruby (Terry) McInvale, Wynton (Emily) Hodges, Jr., Anthony (Vicki) Hughes; cousins; numerous great nieces and nephews, along with other extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew Jackson (A.J.) Phelps and Agnes Gertrude Dunn Phelps; her husband Willie Earl Hughes; her sister, Sara Elizabeth Phelps Coker and brother-in-law Frank Eugene Coker.

Dorothy Jewel was born in Greenville, Alabama, on August 12, 1932. She was a lifetime member of Antioch East Baptist Church in Greenville, Alabama. She was known for her unwavering faith, kindness, and boundless generosity, and she lived a life deeply rooted in her love for God, her family, and friends. She worked for almost 50 years at Boss Glove Factory in Greenville, Alabama.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 11:00 AM, at Antioch East Baptist Church in Greenville, Alabama, with Bro. Blair McBride and Bro. Ronnie Boulware officiating. Visitation will be at 10:00 AM and service time at 11:00 AM, at Antioch East Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Michael Coker, Jeff Bentley, Tracy Bentley, Jody Day, Wayne Dunn and Anthony Hughes.
