IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Connie "Mccalman"
Thompson
October 24, 1947 – February 9, 2025
Connie (McCalman) Thompson, 77, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, February 9.
Connie was born in Montgomery, Alabama on October 24, 1947. She lived her life selflessly serving and loving others. From Pine Level, Alabama in the early 1970's to over twenty years as "the preacher's wife" at Springhill Baptist Church in Greenville and then as an active member at Southside Baptist Church, she immediately immersed herself in helping in any way that was needed. She was called mom, Connie, Nana, Aunt Connie, Ms. Connie or Nana Connie, and no matter the title, she was amazing in each of the roles God called her to be.
She was preceded in death by her husband and the love of her life, Elmore Thompson; her parents, Durwood and Joy McCalman and her brother, John McCalman.
She is survived by her companion and bonus love, Ronnie Miller; her daughters and sons-in-law, Cara and David Wood, Greenville, AL, Michelle and Jay Vohra, Wetumpka, AL, April and Alan Milby, N. Richland Hills, TX, and Amy and Brian Castleberry, Montgomery, AL; her step-son and daughter-in-law Danny and Ramona Thompson, Buford, GA; grandchildren, Hunter Gregory, Dalton (Julia) Gregory, Michael (Haley) Gregory, Erin (Jerwin) Velo, Anna Wood, Payton, Cole and Cameron Milby, Kaitlyn and Allison Castleberry, Adams Thompson, Mallory (Pete) Mueller; 7 great grandchildren; one brother, Ronnie (Ellen) McCalman; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Phyllis McCalman and Harold and Jerre Turner; along many other relatives and friends.
The Family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the incredible women who cared for mom as if she were their own – Janelle Roper, Norma Johnson, Stephanie Head, Cornelius Powell, Mary Crenshaw and Angeline Stanton; along with Monica Smith, Tammy Rios, Lisa Garlock and others at Southern Care Hospice; Lori Miller, Melisa Mote and Lisa Townes who volunteered their nights alongside family to ensure mom was never alone.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Hunter Gregory, Dalton Gregory, Michael Gregory, Cole Milby, Cameron Milby and Jerwin Velo.
Visitation will be held at Southside Baptist Church on Saturday, February 15 at 1:00pm, Celebration of Life to follow at 2:00pm with Brother David Wood and Brother Randy Harvill officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Alzheimer's Association c/o River Region Walk to End Alzheimer's at 1 Metroplex Dr #230, Birmingham, AL 35209. www.act.alz.org
