Obituary

Cody Wayne Couch, an honorable combat veteran of The United States Army, left this world unexpectedly at the age of 33 on March 20th, 2025.

He is preceded in death by his father, Thomas Joe Couch, his paternal grandparents, Jedidiah and Hodges Couch, his maternal grandfather, Ronald Wayne Kitzinger, and his uncle, William Franklin Chapman.

He is survived by his wife of almost ten years, Lisbeth Stephanie Couch, his mother, Michelle Springer (Steven), his sister, Ashley Till (Matthew), his sister, Haley Shay, his brother, Zachary Springer (Taylor), stepsister, Alexandria Bagley, maternal grandmother, Delores Kitzinger, aunt, Gala Couch Chapman "Dayo"; and stepmother, Donna Couch.

Cody will be greatly missed by his nieces and nephew, Adley Jackson, Piper Jackson, Abigail Till, and Baylor Jemison.

Cody was raised in Camden, Alabama. He was born April 30, 1991, in Selma, Alabama. He attended Wilcox Academy and is a member of The Class of 2009. After fulfilling his duty to his country, Cody and his wife made a home in Louisa, Virginia. There he continued to pursue his love of aviation as a flight instructor. In recent years Cody returned to his hometown in Camden, Alabama to be with his father.

At the age of 19, Cody Wayne Couch enlisted in The United States Army and served from 2011 to 2017. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of specialist. Cody never hesitated to answer the call and did so on his first tour to Afghanistan. He continued to serve his country on two more tours in Afghanistan and one final deployment in Iraq. During his final tour, Cody Wayne received The Air Medal, an exceptionally valorous achievement during aerial flight as a MH-60M basic mission qualified crew chief for a joint task force in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. Cody was a proud member of the Nightstalkers in the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment. He served on a UH-60 BlackHawk. He was recognized for his exceptional service and leadership, earning numerous medals and awards, including two campaign stars, The Army Superior Unit Award, The National Defense Service Medal, The NATO Medal, The Army Good Conduct Medal, The Afghanistan Campaign Medal, The Army Service Ribbon, The Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, and The Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, a Combat Action Badge, an Expert Marksmanship Badge, and The IRCM Campaign Star.

Cody's love of aviation led him to obtain both his private and commercial pilot licenses. He was able to help others pursue their dreams of flying while working as a certified flight instructor for both single and multi-engine aircrafts. Cody also had the privilege of flying Governor Glen Younkin of Virginia on a Pilatus numerous occasions.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at Camden Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Kitzinger officiating and Dunklin Funeral Home of Camden directing. Burial will follow at the Camden City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday beginning at 11:00 a.m. until service time.
