Cassandra Yvonne (Coker) Harrison, 83, born October 29, 1942, went home to be with her Lord and Savior in the early morning hours of July 6, 2026, while resting comfortably with her family.
Cassandra (known as Sandra) was born in Mount Willing, Alabama, to Marguerite Norris Coker (later Marguerite Saxon) and Comer Jesse Coker Jr. She attended Auburn University on a Kroger scholarship and earned her bachelor’s degree in Home Economics Education, later earning an additional degree in Early Childhood Education. While at Auburn, she met the love of her life, Harold J. Harrison, and they were married for 61 years. Together, they spent most of their adult lives in Huntsville, Alabama, and Marietta, Georgia.
Sandra was a longtime, faithful member of Whitesburg Baptist Church in Huntsville and then Eastside Baptist Church in Marietta, GA. When they moved back to Huntsville in 2016, they attended Rivertree Church.
Sandra is survived by her four children: Ronnie and his wife Melissa, Lisa and her husband Russell, Lori and her husband Craig, and Scott and his wife Justine; and her 12 grandchildren: Nathan (Abby), Kimberly, Caleb, David, Matthew, Emily (Tim), Josh, Luke, Charlotte, Jack, Malin, and Coen. Sandra is also survived by her brother Comer Coker (Mary), sister Evelyn Barganier (Ed), and brother Byron “Bee” Saxon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Jackson Harrison, her father Comer Coker, Jr, her stepfather Byron Saxon, and her mother Marguerite Saxon.
Sandra’s most cherished roles were mother, grandmother, teacher, and prayer warrior. She loved children! And she prayed for her family fiercely. Whenever her children or grandchildren entered a room, Sandra’s eyes immediately lit up with a contagious joy. For many years, Sandra immensely enjoyed teaching children at several different schools. Her favorite years as a teacher were spent at Eastside Christian School in Marietta, Georgia. And the Eastside families loved Mrs. Harrison! She welcomed every opportunity to spend time with her children and grandchildren, watching sports, baking (Christmas cookies, cakes, fudge, etc), walking, or just listening to her family. Sandra was a world class talent at letting her children vent about a tough day. She could make many of the outfits for the children with her sewing talents while quickly pivoting to making everyone’s favorite dishes for dinner too. She was an example to us all in that she had a childlike joy in being teased herself and in joking and teasing back those she loved.
Sandra will be deeply missed, but her legacy of faith, family, and community will live on through her children, grandchildren, and her extended family. Services will be held at Antioch East Baptist Church in Greenville, AL on Friday, July 10, 2026. In lieu of flowers the family asked any donations be made to Lifeline Church (PO Box 217, Greenville, AL 36037) in celebration of Sandra.
