Carolyn Traweek Hellen, 84, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2021 with her family lovingly at her side. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 14,2021 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Dunklin Funeral Home with Brother Jerry Wilkerson officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Forest Home with Dunklin Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. The family request that any flowers be potted plants. In lieu of flowers donations can also be made to the Senior Health Group at Regional Medical Center of Central Alabama in her honor.

Carolyn grew up in Port Saint Joe, Florida, where she eventually met and married the love of her life, Roy F Hellen, to whom she was married for 63 years.

Carolyn started a career as a newspaper editor and moved on to become a successful realtor in Clear Lake, Texas, where she and her family lived for many years. She had a passion for genealogical research, and in 2001 she founded and was the first president of the Bay Area Genealogy Society, a group that is still going strong today.

Carolyn was fiercely independent and a real "go getter". She saw opportunities everywhere and encouraged those close to her to follow them.  She was funny, whitty, dynamic, and had a huge imagination, which she expressed through crafting and scrapbooking. She loved to camp and instilled a love of the outdoors in her children through many fun camping trips when they were young. Some of her greatest joys in life were helping others in need, making babies smile, ice cream, and Christmas. Carolyn had a gift of making everyone feel like family.

Carolyn is survived by her loving husband, Roy, her daughters Karol Johnson and Katherine Scheider, her son Roy Hellen Jr, and grandchildren, Nelleh Hellen and Sawyer Hellen.
