Obituary

Billy R. Killough, age 83, passed away on October 17, 2024, peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family.  Born on January 5, 1941, in Rutledge, Alabama, Billy was a long-standing member of the community and a beloved figure among his family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 21, 2024, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Southside Baptist Church with Brother Herbert Brown officiating and Dunklin Funeral Home directing.  Burial will follow in Siloam Baptist Church Cemetery in Rutledge, Alabama.  The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. until service time.

Billy's early education was completed at Ivy Creek School, followed by Luverne High School.  His commitment to service was evident early on, as he joined the National Guard and served during the Cuban Missile Crisis.  Billy dedicated 20 years to military service, where he was respected for his diligence and leadership.

Professionally, Billy began his career in 1960 at Hainje's Furniture.  Starting as a warehouse worker, his hard work and dedication saw him rise through the ranks to become vice president of the company.  He cherished his co-workers and the friendships he made throughout his career.

Billy was a devout Christian and a long-time member of Siloam Baptist Church in Rutledge, Alabama. His faith was a significant part of his life, guiding his actions and interactions with others.

He had a profound love for nature, which was most evident in his enjoyment of hunting and fishing at Horse Creek, the old family home place. These activities brought him peace and joy, along with cherished memories.

Billy is survived by his wife of 64 years, Annie Hornsby-Killough; his sister, Ima Killough-Powell; daughters, Pat Killough-Cole (Bobby), Becky Killough-Coon, and Amy Killough.  His grandchildren, Robby Cole, Jen Cole, Sara Cole, Xada Ingram, and Zoe Coon will also hold his memory dear, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, I.D. Killough; mother, Eilder Walker-Killough, and brother, Tommy Killough.

Billy's life was marked by his generosity, hard work, and the deep bonds he formed with those around him.  He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
