William O. "Bill" Ward, 90, a resident of Fort Deposit, died December 13, 2016 in Montgomery after a lengthy illness. He was born June 14, 1926 in Wetumpka, Alabama to Howard Samuel and Jessie Kelly Ward.
Mr. Ward graduated in 1944 from Wetumpka High School and was drafted at age 18 into the Navy where he served during World War II. He worked at Shell Oil Company for over 30 years and served as a deacon for 17 years at Bethel Baptist Church in Fort Deposit.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Betty S. Ward of Fort Deposit, AL; daughter, Vivian Langley, Auburn, AL; sons, Bill (Glenda) Ward, Valdosta, GA; Gordon (Beth) Ward, Montgomery, AL; Lee (Ann) Langley, Buford, GA; Alan (Kathy) Langley, Fort Deposit, AL; grandchildren, Timothy Ward, Katie (Alex) Quintero; Kyla Ward; Josh Ward; Maribeth (Kyle) Francis; Parker Ward; Ashley Langley; Emily (Josh) Pierce, Rankin Langley; great-grandchildren, Sawyer and Harper Ward; Lenora Quintero; Avery Stimmel; Alton Pierce; brother, Jack Ward, Montgomery, AL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Ward was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Jessie Kelly Ward; brothers, Sam and Charles Ward; and son, Lamar Langley.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 16, 2016 at Bethel Baptist Church in Fort Deposit, AL with Rev. Bruce Coker officiating and Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow in Myrtlewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, December 15th from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home. Mr. Ward will lie in state one hour prior to funeral services on Friday.
