Obituary

Mrs. Belle Green Peavy, 77, a resident of Georgiana, AL died at Crowne Heath Care on Monday, September 6, 2021. The graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery on Thursday, September 9, 2021 with Brother Herbert Brown officiating and Dunklin Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

Belle Green Peavy was born October 19. 1943 in the Industry Community to the late Marvin and Sallie Green. She was the sixth of seven children in the family. From an early age, she was no stranger to hard work growing up in a farming community.  Belle attended Industry School and then graduated from Georgiana High School. After high school she moved to Montgomery where she was a telephone operator for a time.

Shortly after returning to Butler County she met and married Jimmy Peavy, and they, with their three children, Pam, Joey, and Jackie made their home in the Industry community. During her lifetime Belle had a variety of jobs serving the people of her community and the greater county. She often worked two or three jobs at a time to help provide for her family.  Belle was a Tupperware salesperson and worked for many years at the Good Luck Glove Factory in Georgiana. She and Jimmy owned and operated Camellia Lanes in Greenville, and she ran their country store "Friendship Grocery".  Her longest standing, and the job of which she was most proud, was being elected Tax Collector for Butler County for 4 consecutive terms. She served the people of her county with kindness, compassion, dedication, and always a smile. She believed in treating others well and took seriously the confidence placed in her by the constituents who voted for her each term.

Belle was an active, life-long member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She loved the Lord and would not hesitate to ask anyone she came in contact with if they were a Christian. She witnessed everywhere she went.  She was a faithful servant in her church and rarely missed a service until she was no longer able to drive . She was the nursery Sunday School teacher for over 25 years, and served on the hostess and flower committees. She loved to share her talents of flower arranging and cooking with her church family. Several of her signature dishes were often requested for potlucks.

Belle loved her children and grandchildren very much and demonstrated her love for them in numerous ways, the least of which was cooking a big family dinner each Sunday.   Most weeks the preacher,  music minister, or any visitor could also be found enjoying a meal with them.

She was an avid gardener and was well known for her sunflowers and zinnias. She was frequently caught on the side of the road digging up wildflowers and rarely missed an opportunity to get a "cutting" from a friend or neighbor.

After her retirement Belle and Jimmy enjoyed a few years of travel around the US with friends and enjoyed  attending their grandchildren's school, church, and community activities. In most recent years she had stayed close to home and family due to her battle with Alzheimer's.

Belle died peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of Monday, September 6, 2021 just eleven days after the death of her beloved husband of fifty years.

She leaves to celebrate her life and legacy her children;  Pam Martin (Derek), Joey Peavy (Lisa), Jackie Thompson (Tommy); grandchildren;  Corey Martin, Jordan Owens (Wyatt), Joseph Peavy, Cailyn Thompson, Clay Thompson, Layla Thompson; great-grandchild; Brantley Owens; her Mother-in-Law Sarah Peavy, Brothers-in-law; Billy Peavy(Kathy) and Jerrald Peavy (Joyce) and several nieces and nephews, and many lifelong friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Peavy; her parents, Sallie and Marvin Green; brothers; James Green and Thomas Green, sisters; Christine Cole, Marge Cole, Patricia Ann Green, and  Carolyn Jones.

Her family can rejoice, even in their sadness, knowing their Mother's (MawMaw) mind is healed and she is resting in the arms of her Savior.
